2000 – IGNORANCE

“I don’t understant why people like this (beer) so much…”

2005 – OBSERVATION

“If we drink a lot of beer in Terceira, we should have our own brand”

2011 – MOTIVATION

Excerpt from a conversation in Prague with a czech swordsman, who, curiously, had just participated in the film “Three Musketeers” (irrelevant fact , but interesting nonetheless) :

Swordsman: Do people like beer in your island?
Rui: Sim, absolutely. And we drink a lot of it.
Swordsman: What beers do you make there?
Rui: None… We drink basically from two national brands and a few foreign, of the more industrial type.
Swordsman: Why don’t they produce beer there?
Rui: (gave some possible explanations, like cost, lack of viability, geographical conext, lack of tradition, etc)
Swordsman: If you really like beer, there’s no good reason not to make your own.
Rui: Makes sense…

It was the motivation that was needed to officially start a project that was already being thought for some years . The “Quinto Toiro” project was born.

2012 – FIRST BREW

Got a first basic brewing kit and made some experiences with canned kits; moved on to all-grain brewing just some weeks later.

2013 – THE BRAND IS BORN

«Quinto Toiro» is now a registered brand. The concept and initial image of the brand are created and also the online presence of the project.

2014 – «CERVEJA E TREMOÇO»

At February 23, Rui creates the portuguese blog «Cerveja e Tremoço» (“beer and lupini beans”), a parallel project created with the goal of educating, promote beer and stay up-to-date.

2015 – RECIPES DEVELOPMENT

After a long time experimenting with dozens of combinations of ingredients and different techniques, and after tasting dozens of beers from all the world, it was time to focus the attention on a small and specific set of recipes.

2016 – RECIPES DEVELOPMENT

The work continued with the aim to develop very special beers.

2017 – THE FUTURE
